Riot at New Sarum 2023 Showcased All Things Local
Bread Riot’s annual fundraiser featured live bands, a silent auction, kids’ activities and more.
The Bread Riot hosted its annual Riot at New Sarum fundraiser on Saturday, September 9, at New Sarum Brewing Company in downtown Salisbury. It was an evening filled with all things local, and attendees were able to help support Bread Riot programs in multiple ways throughout the event.
Live music was performed inside the brewery. The Stokes started off the entertainment at 4 p.m., followed by featured acts CJ Sunshine Band, Destiny Stone, and Dave & Court. Headlining band No. 9 Coal took the stage at 8 p.m. and played until close.
Bread Riot held a silent auction of original artwork, event tickets and themed gift baskets that were donated by more than 25 individuals and local businesses. Many of the baskets included gift cards and local honey, plus books from South Main Book Company. Bread Riot also held a raffle for a Craftsman pressure washer, ran a 50/50 cash raffle, and sold logo mugs made by Pottery 101 and event T-shirts featuring a design by The Lettered Lily.
Families took part in free kids’ activities, such as stamping with vegetables, and received fun creations from the balloon twister well known at the Salisbury/Rowan Farmers Market.
There was beer available from New Sarum, food by Kreyol Flavors and Freedom Biters, and desserts from Holy Cookie Dough and Wholesome Muffins and Treats. Attendees browsed offerings from vendors that included local farmers, talented makers, small businesses and other local groups.
Despite the questionable weather, the evening was a great success. Bread Riot would like to thank the many generous sponsors and donors who contributed to Riot at New Sarum. Proceeds from the event will go toward purchasing produce and other foods from local farmers and distributing it to those who might not have access, furthering Bread Riot’s mission to link farms to tables throughout the community.
