Sustainable Farming Apprenticeships Now Available

Bread Riot and two Rowan County farmers are partnering to offer farming apprenticeships through a new small-scale pilot program.

Individuals interested in sustainable farming, organic gardening or homesteading now have the opportunity to learn the basics of growing food from an experienced Rowan County farmer!

Through a small-scale pilot program, Bread Riot, Downing Farms and Farmer’s Daughter Organics are collaborating to offer apprenticeships to two or three individuals who are serious about implementing sustainable farming practices in their own lives.

Apprenticeships will be 15 weeks, working and learning on the farm for 20 hours per week, or can be tailored to the individual’s needs and interests. Farmers will pay apprentices an hourly wage. Apprentices must be at least 18 years old, and a modest enrollment fee will be required.

The first apprenticeships will start in spring 2025. To attend an interest meeting, register here by December 15, 2024.
