The Backyard Bird Chronicles by Amy Tan

A witty account of birding, nature and the beauty that hides in plain sight.

The Sustainability Book Club met on September 5 to discuss The Backyard Bird Chronicles by Amy Tan. This is a different type of book from the author best known for popular fiction such as The Joy Luck Club. In this collection of journal entries, essays and sketches, Amy Tan describes the activities and interactions of the birds visiting her California backyard. Although her interest in birds began a few years earlier, many of the entries in this book were written during the COVID-19 pandemic, as she sought a way to connect to nature during a volatile time.
